NEW SERIES: Today, Journalism Equals…

15 Jun

Claire's article is #1! Buuut it's on Keanu.Welcome to our new blog series, called “Today Journalism Equals…”, inspired by, as usual, the following IM conversation between Claire and myself.

Molly:  today, journalism = photoshopping popular celeb haircuts on our anchors
Claire: hahahahahah

I didn’t say it was a LONG conversation.  Welcome to the wonderful world of morning television and general interest news-magazines.  Here’s what Journalism Equals for us today…

For Molly, journalism equals:

  • Photo-shopping popular celeb haircuts on our anchors (Jennifer Aniston not included)
  • An hour of searching the wires for the perfect photo of Kim Kardashian
  • Tracking down a two-headed kitten
  • Taste-testing various gluten-free protein bars

For Claire, journalism equals:

  • Finding out that your story about a sad celebrity is more popular than the military’s attempt to clean up the BP oil spill
  • Reading the New York Times Style section and realizing that the entire article about people who cut the sleeves off of their Mickey Mouse t-shirts is the result of a bored journalist interviewing three friends
  • Writing an album review and discovering that a WaPo writer stole a phrase from a Pitchfork review.  BREAKING NEWS!

America grows dumber daily. This is why I read books, because it seems everything is written like a 4th grade essay these days 500 words or less. I abstain from most journalism because I’d rather save those condemned brain cells to be euthanized in a more fun matter like Jameson or second hand weed smoke.
